One MR16 LED bulb covers three colour temperatures. Set 3000K, 4000K or 5000K on the lamp before install, so a single part number handles warm retail, neutral corridor and cool task work.
7W draws 500 lumens through a 40 degree spot beam. GU5.3 bi-pin base, 12V input, 0.9 power factor, CRI above 80.
Dimmable, UL listed, and rated for enclosed fixtures. Aluminum body, so it runs cool in tight housings.
Are MR16 and GU5.3 the same?
No. MR16 is the reflector shape, GU5.3 is the base, and this lamp is both. Two pins sit 5.3 mm apart and push straight into the socket. Check this before you order, because MR16-shaped lamps also ship on a GU10 twist-lock base at line voltage, and the two aren't interchangeable. Quick test on the lamp you're replacing: if it pulls straight out, you need GU5.3. If it twists a quarter turn first, you need GU10.
Can you replace GU5.3 halogen with LED?
Yes, and it's a straight swap in the same fitting. Two things to check before you convert a whole run. This lamp needs 12V, so it works off a transformer rather than house voltage. And an older magnetic or high-frequency halogen transformer usually has a minimum load well above what a 7W LED draws, which shows up as flicker, buzz, or a lamp that dies early. Four lamps on a 60W magnetic transformer won't hold steady output. Move to an LED-rated 12V transformer when you're doing the whole circuit.
One lamp instead of three SKUs
The colour selector is on the lamp body. That means a distributor stocks one part number rather than three, and nothing sits dead in the colour nobody ordered. For a contractor it means finishing a mixed-spec job from one case, without a second trip for the 4000K the spec sheet asked for.
What it needs to run
A 12V supply, a GU5.3 socket, and an LED-rated dimmer if you're dimming. Tested dimmers are Leviton 6681, 6674 and 6683, plus Lutron DVCL-153PLH, S600-P, DV600-P15 and MACL-153M. The 40 degree beam is a spot, built for accent, display and track work rather than filling a room. It's also rated for enclosed fixtures, which plenty of 12V LED lamps aren't.
For beam plots and spacing, open the IES file in the Related documents panel and load it into your layout software. Send us your case count and the colour temperature split you need, and we'll come back with a wholesale quote and confirm transformer compatibility for your run.
