USB Charger Receptacles by Application

A USB charger receptacle puts charging ports and a power outlet in one device. No wall adapters, no lost gang space. For a contractor speccing a building, that means fewer parts and a cleaner finish. Here's where they earn their place.

Multi-Unit Residential

Condos and apartments spec USB wall outlets in bedrooms, kitchens, and entryways. One device per suite cuts adapter clutter and adds a selling feature for tenants.

Hotels and Short-Term Rentals

Nightstands and desks need charging without loose bricks. USB-C power outlets handle phones and laptops, and tamper-resistant builds meet guest-room code.

Healthcare and Education

Clinics, long-term care, and schools call for tamper-resistant and hospital-grade options. We stock devices rated for these settings.

Commercial Offices and Co-Working

Desks, meeting rooms, and lobbies need fast charging at the wall. A USB-C receptacle with Power Delivery tops up a laptop without a separate charger.

Port Configurations We Stock

Match the device to the load. We carry the full range of USB receptacle outlets so you can spec one part across a whole project.

  • Dual USB-A: the workhorse. Handles phones, tablets, and most accessories.
  • USB-A + USB-C combo: covers older and newer devices on one outlet.
  • Dual USB-C: for sites standardising on USB-C laptops and phones.
  • Quad-port duplex: four charging ports plus the receptacle for high-traffic areas.

Power and Charging Specifications

USB charging receptacles range from about 3.0A on basic dual-port units to higher-output models built for fast charging. USB-C Power Delivery is the spec that matters for laptops: in-wall PD outlets reach up to 60W on a single port, enough for a small laptop or a tablet at full speed.2 On the line side, you'll spec either a 15A or a 20A receptacle to match the branch circuit. We stock both.

Tamper-Resistant and Code Compliance

Canadian Electrical Code Rule 26-706 requires tamper-resistant receptacles on CSA 5-15R and 5-20R configurations in most installations, and the 2018 code expanded that to hotel guest rooms, preschools, and elementary schools.1 If you're wiring any of those, the USB receptacle has to be tamper-resistant too. Every device we recommend for those settings is TR-rated and CSA or cUL listed, so it passes inspection the first time.

Why Contractors and Distributors Choose Votatec

  • Quoted by volume. Tell us the count, we price the project. No single-unit retail markup.
  • One supplier, full wiring-device line. Pair USB receptacles with GFCI devices, dimmer switches, and the rest of the wiring-devices range.
  • Canadian stock and shipping. We supply jobs across the GTA, Vancouver, Montreal, Calgary, and Ottawa.
  • Spec sheets on request. Submittals and cut sheets for your engineer or inspector.
  • Code-ready devices. CSA / cUL listed, tamper-resistant where the job needs it.

USB Wall Outlets vs Standard Receptacles: The Numbers

A common pushback is standby draw. The data puts it to rest. A USB outlet pulls roughly 0.05W when nothing is plugged in, and modern high-efficiency modules sit under 0.1W, about $0.13 a year in electricity.3 Against that, you remove the wall-wart adapters tenants leave plugged in and free up the second receptacle slot. For a multi-unit job, one USB wall outlet per suite is a small line item that shows up in every listing photo.
