Power and Charging Specifications
USB charging receptacles range from about 3.0A on basic dual-port units to higher-output models built for fast charging. USB-C Power Delivery is the spec that matters for laptops: in-wall PD outlets reach up to 60W on a single port, enough for a small laptop or a tablet at full speed.2 On the line side, you'll spec either a 15A or a 20A receptacle to match the branch circuit. Tamper-Resistant and Code Compliance
Canadian Electrical Code Rule 26-706 requires tamper-resistant receptacles on CSA 5-15R and 5-20R configurations in most installations, and the 2018 code expanded that to hotel guest rooms, preschools, and elementary schools.1 If you're wiring any of those, the USB receptacle has to be tamper-resistant too. USB Wall Outlets vs Standard Receptacles: The Numbers
