Linear vs UFO High Bays, and How to Choose
Both light high ceilings. The shape changes the spread. Linear high bays throw a wide, rectangular beam that follows aisles and racking, so they suit warehouses, retail rows, and fluorescent retrofits. UFO high bays throw a round beam, better for open floors and very high ceilings.

Specs That Matter: Wattage, Lumens, CCT, Voltage
Match the fixture to the room, not the other way around. Here's what to check.
- Wattage and lumens. LED high bays deliver 130 to 180 lumens per watt, against roughly 90 lm/W for metal halide. Selectable-power models cover a range (for example 110W to 165W to 220W) so one SKU fits several ceiling heights.
- Target light levels. IES RP-7 suggests 20 to 30 foot-candles for general warehousing and 30 to 50 fc for picking and packing. A 30,000-lumen fixture covers a lot of floor at typical mounting heights.
- Mounting and spacing. A spacing-to-height ratio near 1.5:1 keeps beams overlapping at floor level. At 20 ft mounting, that's roughly 30 ft between rows.
- Colour temperature. 4000K reads neutral, 5000K reads cooler and crisper. CCT-selectable fixtures let your crew set it at install.
- Voltage and dimming. 120-347V multi-volt input fits Canadian commercial panels. 0-10V dimming pairs with daylight and occupancy sensors.
