What is a Type B LED tube?
A Type B LED tube is a ballast bypass lamp. The driver sits inside the tube, so line voltage runs from the panel to the sockets and into the lamp, and the old fluorescent ballast leaves the circuit entirely. This one takes 120V through 277V at 50/60Hz. You can wire it double-ended, with line at one end and neutral at the other, or single-ended with both at the same end. Both diagrams are in the manual.
Are T5 fluorescent tubes being discontinued in Canada?
Yes. Manufacture and import of T5 and T8 linear fluorescent lamps stopped on 2025-12-31 under Canada's Products Containing Mercury Regulations. A replacement-lamp exemption runs to 2027-12-31, and existing stock can sell through the end of 2029. Buildings still on T5 fluorescents need a retrofit plan rather than a re-lamp plan, and Type B is the version that removes the ballast from the maintenance list at the same time.
One tube, four colour temperatures
The switch on the tube body picks 3500K, 4000K, 5000K or 6500K. Stock one item instead of four. Crews match an existing room on site instead of driving back for the right box, and a building with mixed colours gets sorted in one visit. Output runs 3000 lumens at 3500K up to 3188 lumens at 5000K.
What the manual says before you wire it
Dry and damp locations only, and never where it's directly exposed to water or weather. Don't run it on a standard wall dimmer. Dimming needs a 0-10V module wired the way Case 2 shows in the manual. Once you convert a fixture it won't run fluorescent lamps again, so treat the change as one way. The manual also requires the supplied marking and cautionary label to go somewhere visible on the luminaire after the work is finished, which matters at inspection.
