What is the wattage of a 2x4 LED flat panel light?
Most 2x4 panels sit between 30W and 75W. This one covers five points in that range: 72W, 65W, 60W, 50W and 40W. Votatec's spec sheet rates the 72W step at 10,800 lumens and the 40W step at 5,960, both at 3000K.
A DIP switch on the back sets the wattage, and a second sets the colour temperature. Nothing's ordered as a variant, so one SKU replaces twenty-five. The panel does arrive on a factory preset below maximum, so put the switch setting on the install checklist.
What's the difference between a backlit and an edge-lit panel?
Where the LEDs sit. An edge-lit panel lines its diodes along the frame and pushes light sideways through a plastic light guide plate. This one mounts them across the rear housing, straight behind a PMMA diffuser.
No light guide plate means nothing yellows. That plate is what shifts colour over a decade in a warm plenum. Losing it costs a little depth, which is why this panel measures 1.49 inches.
What the sensor needs
The passive infrared sensor is bi-level, not on-off. It dims to standby instead of going dark, and daylight-harvests through a built-in photocell. Defaults are 100% sensitivity, a 5-minute hold and 30% standby dim, at a 12 foot maximum mounting height.
First power-up holds the light on 40 seconds before the sensor takes over. That's normal. Changing settings needs the wireless remote, not a screwdriver.
Will it fit your ceiling?
It drops straight into a T-bar grid. Surface mounting, suspension and drywall recessing all work, but each needs its own accessory kit ordered separately, so put it on the same purchase order. The junction box takes 90-degree conduit through any of five knockouts. Lutron's DSTV-Diva is the only dimmer Votatec has tested, at 10% to 100%.
