What is a backlit LED panel?
A backlit panel mounts its LEDs on a flat plate behind the diffuser and shines straight down through it. An edge-lit panel puts the LEDs along the frame and pushes light sideways across an acrylic light guide plate. This one is backlit, and it runs a PMMA lens with no guide plate, so nothing in the light path discolours as the fixture ages. You'll see the same design sold as direct-lit.
Backlit or edge-lit: which should you spec?
Spec backlit for even brightness across the face and long colour stability. Spec edge-lit when plenum depth is genuinely tight. That's the whole trade-off, and the depth penalty here is small: this panel is about 1.2 inches deep. In a standard 2x4 T-bar grid that's a non-issue. Directly under a duct run it can matter.
What do the two switches actually change?
It ships set to 3500K and 50W, so any other setting needs a switch change before the panel goes up. Both DIP switches sit on the back of the housing, reachable only before install. Measured efficacy runs 123 to 132 lm/W across the five steps and five colours, so dropping to a lower wattage costs you nothing in efficiency.
Will it fit your grid and your conduit?
It drops directly into a 2x4 T-bar opening. Recessed frames, surface-mount frames, suspension kits and spring clips are all separate order codes, not in the carton. The junction box carries five knockouts, one on the side sized for 90 degree conduit, which keeps the whip from fouling the deck above. At 120-347V it covers Canadian commercial and industrial service off one SKU. The PIR sensor reads 360 degrees up to a 12ft mounting height and drives the 0-10V input for daylight harvesting.
