LED corn bulbs are retrofit lamps that screw directly into existing HID, metal halide, or HPS fixtures. No rewiring, no new fixture. Just swap the old bulb, bypass the ballast, and you're done. That's why they're one of the most popular LED upgrades for street lights, parking lots, and warehouse fixtures.
They're called "corn" bulbs because the rows of LED chips around the lamp look like kernels on a cob. Kind of obvious once you see it.

What Is an LED Corn Bulb?
It's a direct replacement lamp designed to fit inside existing fixtures - shoe box lights, wall packs, acorn post tops, enclosed globes, and high bay reflectors. The 360-degree light output matches the omnidirectional pattern of the HID bulbs they're replacing, so you don't lose coverage or get dark spots.
The big advantage is simplicity. With a dedicated LED fixture, you're replacing the whole unit. With a corn bulb, you keep the fixture and just change the lamp. For buildings with dozens or hundreds of fixtures, that saves a lot on installation costs. An electrician can retrofit one fixture in 10-15 minutes.
Most corn bulbs require a ballast bypass (direct wire to line voltage). Some models are ballast-compatible, but bypass is generally more reliable long-term. No ballast means one less thing to fail.
Where Do You Use LED Corn Light Bulbs?

Outdoor LED Corn Bulbs for Street Lights and Parking Lots
This is the biggest application. Municipal street lights, parking lot pole fixtures, pathway bollards, and post-top decorative lights. Most of these fixtures use E39 mogul base HPS or metal halide lamps running 100W to 400W. An LED corn bulb drops that to 36W to 100W for the same light output. Sometimes more light, actually.
For outdoor use, make sure the corn bulb is rated for enclosed fixtures and has an IP64 or higher rating. Rain, snow, and humidity are constant in Canada, especially through winter. Our outdoor-rated models handle -40°C without issues.
One thing to watch: not all corn bulbs fit inside every fixture. Check the lamp dimensions against your existing globe or reflector before ordering. We can help with that if you send us photos or model numbers.

LED Corn Lamps for Warehouse and Shop Fixtures
Warehouses and shops with older high bay reflectors or low bay pendants are perfect candidates. Instead of replacing the entire fixture (which can cost $200-400 each plus installation), drop in a 54W to 150W corn lamp and you're getting equivalent light to a 250W-400W metal halide. Fraction of the cost.
The 360-degree beam works well in open reflector housings because light hits the reflector surface and redirects downward. You lose very little output compared to a purpose-built LED high bay.
LED Corn Lights for Commercial and Retail Spaces
Lobbies with decorative post-top fixtures, covered walkways, canopy fixtures, and wall packs in shopping plazas. The smaller E26 base corn bulbs (12W to 36W) fit standard medium-base fixtures that are common in these applications.
For retail and commercial, 4000K is usually the better choice. It's neutral enough for customer-facing areas without looking industrial.
Which LED Corn Bulb Base Do You Need?
E26 LED Corn Light Bulbs
Standard medium base - the same screw base as a regular household bulb. Used in smaller commercial fixtures, decorative post tops, wall packs, and porch lights. Wattages typically run from 12W to 54W (1,500 to 7,000 lumens).
If your existing fixture takes a standard screw-in bulb, E26 is what you need.
E39 LED Corn Lamps (Mogul Base)
The larger mogul base used in commercial and industrial fixtures - street lights, shoe box fixtures, high bay reflectors, and large area lights. Wattages from 36W to 150W (4,500 to 20,000+ lumens).
E39 is the standard for anything that currently runs on a 100W+ HID lamp. If the bulb in your fixture is noticeably bigger than a household bulb at the base, it's almost certainly E39.
