What are flush mount ceiling lights called?
Flush mount, surface mount, low profile, ceiling panel and close-to-ceiling all describe the same thing: a fixture whose body sits directly against the ceiling with no stem or chain. Canadian trade buyers often say pot light, but that's the recessed type that drops into a cut hole. This one mounts on the surface, so it needs no ceiling cavity and no cutting. At 0.59" deep it's about as shallow as the format gets, which is why it works in stairwells, corridors and basements where headroom is tight.
Do you need an electrician to fit a flush ceiling light?
In Canada, hard-wired fixtures should be installed to the Canadian Electrical Code and local rules, so use a licensed electrician unless you're qualified. The install itself is three steps, per the manual: kill the power at the breaker, fasten the mounting bracket to the terminal box, connect and ground the wires, then seat the lamp body on the bracket and turn it to lock. Set the colour temperature before you seat the body, and wear gloves, the metal edges are sharp.
Three trim rings, one fixture
The white body ships with chrome, brushed nickel and black trim rings that hold on magnetically. Pull one off, press another on, no fasteners and no ladder trip back to the van for a different SKU. For a contractor stocking several units, that's one line item instead of four, and a spec change on site needs no reorder.
Where this fixture can and can't go
It's damp rated for indoor spots that see humidity, so bathrooms, laundry rooms and covered entries are fine. The manual marks it indoor use only, so it isn't for exposed outdoor positions. Insulation must not touch or cover it. Rated for -20 to +40 °C. The LED and driver are sealed and not field-serviceable, and the real outside diameter is 11.49", not a round 11.
