What are flush mounted ceiling lights called?
They also sell as ceiling mounts, close-to-ceiling lights and disk lights. Canadian buyers often say "pot light" for anything round and flat, though that word usually means a recessed fixture. This one is surface-mounted. It fastens to the ceiling box, so it works where there's no room to recess.
How do I know what size flush mount ceiling light to buy?
Add the room's length and width in feet, then read that total as inches of fixture diameter. A 12 by 12 bedroom lands near 24", which two 12" units cover more evenly than one oversized fixture. For hallways, entries and laundry rooms, a single 12" does it.
Set the wattage and colour temperature before you install it
Both switches sit on the trim ring, and the manual tells you to choose before the fixture goes up. Pick 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, 4000K or 5000K on one, five wattage steps on the other. The 4000K and 5000K settings run brighter at every step, so 15W at 5000K gives 1,050 lm against 1,000 lm at 3000K. One SKU, 25 combinations, less shelf stock.
Do you need an electrician to fit a flush ceiling light?
For the connection, yes. It mounts to a standard ceiling box and ships with three wirenuts and two 1-1/2" box screws. Loosen the cover, fix the plate to the box, join ground, black and white, then rotate the plate clockwise and lock it. Work must meet the Canadian Electrical Code, CSA C22.1.
Where it can go, and where it can't
Damp-location listed, so bathrooms, laundry rooms and covered porches are fine. It's IP20, so keep it clear of direct water and weather. It runs -20°C to 40°C, mounts horizontally or vertically, and dims 10% to 100% on ELV or TRIAC controls.
