Can you put this flush mount in a bathroom?
Yes. It's damp location rated, which covers bathrooms, laundry rooms, covered porches and enclosed garages. Damp rated means the fixture is built for humidity and condensation, not direct water. Wet rated is the tier above, for direct spray like an open deck or an unenclosed shower. This one isn't wet rated, so keep it out of shower enclosures and off exposed exterior walls.
How do you tell whether a light is damp rated?
The rating comes from the safety listing, not the marketing copy. This fixture carries a cETLus mark from Intertek, which means it's been tested to both Canadian and US standards, and the damp location rating is declared on its spec sheet. Ask for the cut sheet before rough-in on any job an inspector will sign off, because a fixture with no declared location rating is a dry-location fixture by default.
Set the colour temperature before you mount it
The slide switch sits on the back of the housing, and once the plate locks onto the junction box you can't reach it. Its positions are labelled SW, BW and DL rather than Kelvin values. SW gives you 3000K, BW gives you 4000K, DL gives you 5000K. Set it on the bench, then hang the fixture.
Which dimmers will it run on?
It dims from 10% to 100% and works with most leading edge and trailing edge TRIAC dimmers. There's no 0-10V input on this 120V model, so don't spec it against a 0-10V control. Mounting is a twist-lock onto a standard junction box, and the box ships with three wirenuts and two 1-1/2" electrical box screws.
How long does it last?
Rated for more than 50,000 hours, backed by a 5-year warranty. At 6 hours a day that's past the 20-year mark, which is why the iron housing and the bonded PMMA diffuser matter more than the driver spec on a fixture nobody plans to reopen.
