What size cutout does a two-head 3.5-inch gimbal need?
3-3/4" x 7-1/4". That's the rectangular opening for the two-head version. The one-head model takes a 3-3/4" round hole and the three-head takes 3-3/4" x 10-7/8", so a mixed run on one ceiling needs three separate templates. The fixture measures 7-7/8" x 4-3/8" and sits 3-1/8" deep. Its junction box is a separate body at 6-1/8" x 4-5/8" x 1-5/8", and the two apertures sit 3-1/2" apart on centre.
Which dimmers are tested with it?
Votatec's instruction sheet names them outright. Lutron PD-6WCL, DVCL-153P, SFTU-5A3P, DMD-LE3-D, CTCL-153P and DV-600P. Leviton 6621, 6672 and IPL06-10Z. Cooper SI06P. The driver is Triac, forward phase, dimming to 10%. Spec a control off that list and you're testing it yourself.
Does light output change with colour temperature?
Yes, and by more than most spec sheets admit. Votatec's own IES files measure roughly 22W actual draw at every setting, with output climbing steadily from the 2700K position through to 5000K. Real efficacy tracks it, from the high 60s to the low 80s lm/W. ENERGY STAR certifies the fixture at 1,968 lumens and 82 lm/W at 5000K, with CRI 92, power factor 0.94 and 55,000 hours to L70. If you're running a photometric layout, work from the IES set rather than a single lumen figure, because a flat number costs you accuracy at the warm end.
Where can you install it?
It's canless. A remote junction box feeds both heads through plug connectors, so there's no housing can to buy and no plenum depth to find beyond the 3-1/8" the fixture occupies. Type IC means building insulation can sit against it. Use 120V circuits only, keep ambient between -20°C and 40°C, and select the colour temperature before you close the box cover, because the switch lives inside it. The manual specifies indoor installation and rules the fixture out for emergency lighting.
