What are directional recessed lights?
They're recessed fixtures with a pivoting inner head, so the beam aims off-centre instead of straight down. This one carries a rotating gimbal ring in a 4.72in trim, with a 40-degree beam behind a frosted lens. On a sloped or vaulted ceiling that matters: you can drop the light vertically into the room rather than throwing it at the same angle as the ceiling. In flat ceilings it's the difference between washing a wall evenly and lighting the floor in front of it.
Should recessed lights sit flush with the ceiling?
Yes, and this trim is built to. Spring-loaded clips push up through the hole and pull the fixture tight against the drywall. Votatec widened the border to 0.78in (20mm), so it covers a rough or slightly oversized cut without leaving a gap. Overall height is 1.10in.
Five colour temperatures, one part number
The CCT switch sits inside the driver housing rather than on the trim, so nobody knocks it out of setting after handover. Output climbs across the range: the spec sheet lists 754Lm at 2700K rising to 846Lm at 4000K on the white trim. Dimming runs 10% to 100% on ELV and TRIAC controls, and Votatec publishes 36 tested dimmer models from Lutron, Leviton and Legrand. Rated 50,000 hours, with 2.5kV surge protection built in.
Will it fit your ceiling?
Cut a 4in hole. The install sheet calls for 4 inches even though the fixture is sold as a 3.5in, so confirm that against your rough-in before you order. You'll want a compartment of at least Ø4.7in x 1.1in. Votatec rates the junction box for insulation contact and the wire to FT4, and the install sheet rates the product for damp locations. Order the cable connector separately, it doesn't ship in the box.
