3″ Gimbal – 3Way CCT

The C5202 is a 3" square gimbal recessed light built around a 24-degree COB optic, so it lays down a tight accent beam instead of washing a room. The head tilts and rotates behind a 90mm faceplate.

Seven watts replaces a 60W halogen. Three colour temperatures switch in the field: 3000K, 4000K, 5000K.

IC rated, airtight and damp rated. ETL listed, dimmable, 50,000 hours, five-year warranty.

What size hole does a 3" gimbal recessed light need?

Cut 2.95 inches, or 75mm. The 90mm square faceplate covers the opening with room to spare, and the housing sits 42mm deep once the spring clips pull it flush. The driver box is separate, 100mm by 35mm, and it feeds through the same hole on remodel work, so you don't need attic access. Note that the printed manual's hole-cut table says 76mm and lists a 4" row that doesn't apply here. Go with 75mm.

Can it go in insulation, and is it damp rated?

Yes to both, and no to outdoors. It's Type IC rated for direct contact with insulation, so you can bury it in a batt without a standoff, and it's airtight, which keeps it out of the way of an envelope test. The manual rates it for damp locations and indoor installation only. That covers a bathroom or a covered laundry ceiling. It doesn't cover a soffit or an exterior overhang. Operating range runs -20C to 45C.

How tight is a 24-degree beam?

Tight enough that you should treat this as accent lighting, not general illumination. The IES files put peak intensity at 3,084 candela at 4000K, which is a lot of punch out of seven watts. Measured output lands between 609 and 680 lumens depending on which colour temperature you switch it to, with 4000K the brightest of the three. Space these for artwork, millwork and feature walls. For even ceiling coverage, use a wider optic.

Wiring and setting the colour temperature

The driver box takes quick-connect push-in terminals, so there are no wire nuts to make up. Knock out the entry, run the supply in, match black to black and white to white, ground to green. The CCT switch sits on the driver box itself, so pick 3000K, 4000K or 5000K before you close the cover and push it into the ceiling. Available in white or black.
