A 4-inch pot light that hides its diode. The LED sits deep behind the trim, so you see the beam and not the source, and the gimbal tilts and rotates to aim it where you want it.

What does IC rated mean on a pot light?
It means insulation can touch it. A Type IC fixture sits in direct contact with ceiling or attic insulation without overheating, which is what Canadian electrical code asks for wherever insulation covers a recessed fixture. This one is Type IC and air tight, so it also stops warm indoor air leaking into a cold attic. No clearance gap to frame, no box to build.
What is the hole size for a 4 inch pot light?
Cut 4-1/4 inches, or 108mm. That's the figure in the installation sheet. The trim covers 6 inches, so a rough cut still disappears, but the spring clips are sized for 108mm and a wider hole weakens their grip. Depth is 3-1/2 inches, and the driver box is separate.
Why a regressed gimbal instead of a slim wafer?
Depth. A wafer puts the diode almost level with the ceiling, which is why it flares when you look across a room. Here the COB sits back inside the housing, so the trim shields the source at normal viewing angles. Add a 40 degree beam and CRI 92 and it becomes an accent fixture: artwork, feature walls, retail shelving, millwork. For flat general lighting a wafer is cheaper.
Where can you install it?
Indoor, damp locations. Bathrooms, covered entries and kitchens are fine. Direct spray isn't, so keep it out of shower zones and open soffits. It runs from -20°C to 40°C, carries 2.5kV of surge protection, and dims 10 to 100% on ELV or TRIAC. In new construction the hardwire box has to be secured to a joist; on a remodel it doesn't.
