This 6" gimbal recessed light tilts 38° to aim light where a fixed downlight can't, and it's certified Type IC Airtight, so it sits right against ceiling insulation. Thirteen watts gives 1,100 lumens. Five colour temperatures pick on a switch before install: 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, 4000K, 5000K. It dims from 10% to 100%. ETL listed, ENERGY STAR certified and wet location rated, backed by a 5-year warranty.

What is a gimbal recessed light?

It's a recessed fixture whose head pivots inside the trim, so you aim the beam instead of pointing it straight down. This one tilts 38° vertically. The measured beam is 39°. Peak intensity runs 2,189 candela straight down, falling to half at 19.5° off axis. That's an accent optic, not a wide wash. Is IC rated the same as fire rated?

No, and the two get confused constantly. IC means the housing can touch insulation without overheating. Fire rated means the assembly restores a ceiling's fire resistance after you cut a hole in it. This fixture is certified Type IC Airtight. That covers insulated ceilings, and the airtight seal stops warm air leaking into a cold attic. It isn't fire rated. When your drawings call for a fire rating, use the 6" fire rated pot light.

Can you put it in a shower or under a soffit?

Yes. ENERGY STAR lists this model as wet location rated, indoors or outdoors, so covered porches, soffits, and shower ceilings are in scope. Most 6" gimbals stop at damp.

What has to fit above the ceiling

The lamp body is 180.4mm (7.09in) across and 66mm (2.6in) deep. The driver is a separate 85 x 85 x 32mm box that sits beside the housing, not stacked above it, so allow for it in a shallow joist bay. Set the colour temperature on the slide switch before you push the fixture up. Once it's seated, you can't reach that switch. For the tilt geometry, the cut-hole range, and the colour switch sequence, open the Manual (PDF), and pull the IES file if your designer needs the candela distribution for a layout.
