This 8-inch slim round pot light drops straight into a 210 mm (8-1/4 in.) hole with no housing behind it. It's certified Type IC, so ceiling insulation can sit right against the fixture.

What is an IC rated pot light?
IC stands for insulation contact. A Type IC fixture can be buried in attic or ceiling insulation with no clearance gap, where a non-IC light needs roughly three inches of air around it to shed heat. This one is certified Type IC and air tight. IC isn't a fire rating, though. That's a separate listing and this fixture doesn't carry one.
Can insulation and a vapour barrier go over it?
Yes. Air tight construction stops warm indoor air leaking up into the cold space above, which is what drives frost and mould at the ceiling plane through a Canadian winter. The integral junction box is IC rated too, so the whole assembly can be covered. The trim laps 10 mm (0.4 in.) past the cut hole, so an opening cut slightly oversize still closes up clean.
Which dimmers work with this pot light?
It's an ELV and TRIAC fixture, not 0-10V. Votatec has tested 36 wall dimmers on it, dimming smoothly from 10% to 100%, and the spec sheet names every one by brand and series. Use a dimmer built for LED loads. Older incandescent dimmers can flicker or buzz near the bottom of the range.
Where can you install it?
It's wet location listed, so bathrooms, covered porches and soffits are all in scope, alongside the usual kitchens, hallways and offices. Allow a compartment 8.66 in. across and 1.26 in. deep. The whip runs 300 mm (11.81 in.) from the junction box to the fixture, and the springs hold at 6N to 8N. Working range is -20°C to 40°C.
