What's the point of a frosted candle bulb?
Glare control. A clear filament candle puts four bright filament strips straight into your eye-line, and in an open chandelier, a wall sconce or a vanity bar those sockets sit at head height. Frosting the glass spreads the same light across the whole envelope. You see a lit bulb, not four hot lines.
Are frosted light bulbs less bright?
Barely, and we can show you the number. Votatec measured both bodies on the same spec sheet. This frosted model puts out 599 lumens at 3000K. The clear candle filament bulb puts out 613. That's a 14 lumen gap, roughly 2%. Most E12 lamps land between 250 and 500 lumens, so 599 still sits above the class while losing the glare.
Which dimmers has it been tested with?
Seven, by model number. Lutron DVCL-153PLH, S600-P, DV600-P15 and MACL-153M, plus Leviton 6681, 6674 and 6683. Pair it with one of those and you'll get the full range without flicker or drop-out at the bottom of the dial. We stock LED dimmer switches as well, so the lamp and the control go on one purchase order.
Where it fits, and where it doesn't
It measures 3.92" tall by 1.38" across, so it clears most candelabra holders and clip shades. Don't put it in an enclosed fixture. The sheet rates it IP20 for open, dry locations only, and trapped heat shortens filament life. Ambient range is -20C to 40C. It's 3000K only, which means a 12-socket chandelier stays colour-matched with no sorting on site.
