What is an ST64 bulb?

ST64 describes the shape, not the technology. "ST" stands for Straight Tubular and "64" is the diameter in millimetres, so an ST64 measures 64mm across at its widest point. This one stands 5.5" tall on a standard E26 screw base. It's the teardrop profile most people picture when they say Edison bulb, and it's built to be looked at rather than hidden behind a shade.

What's the difference between a white filament and an amber filament bulb?

The filament colour changes how the bulb looks switched off. Amber filaments stay visibly orange in daylight, which reads dated in a modern fitting. A white filament blends into clear glass, so an unlit pendant or sconce looks clean. Switched on, the difference is colour temperature. This model runs 3000K, 4000K or 5000K. Vintage-style ST64s sit at 2200K to 2700K. Specify white filament when the fixture stays on display in an office, retail floor or lobby and the amber glow would fight the room.

One SKU, three colour temperatures, named dimmer compatibility

Stock a single line and match whatever the space needs. 3000K suits hospitality, 4000K works for retail and office, 5000K holds up where task lighting has to stay crisp. Dimming is verified against specific controls rather than claimed in general: Leviton 6681, 6674 and 6683, plus Lutron DVCL-153PLH, S600-P, DV600-P15 and MACL-153M. Check what's already on the wall against that list before you quote a retrofit.

Where this bulb can and can't go

It isn't rated for enclosed fixtures. Keep it out of sealed globes and gasketed jars, where trapped heat cuts filament life short. IP20 means dry locations only. Rated operating range is -25°C to 40°C, with best performance around 25°C, and surge protection is 2.5kV as standard. For fixture fit, allow 5.5" of height plus socket depth and 2.5" of clearance at the widest point. Each bulb weighs 42g, so cord-hung pendants aren't a concern.
