Are E12 and candelabra the same thing?
Yes. E12 is the thread measurement, candelabra is the trade name for it. The 12 means the screw base is 12mm across, which is the small base you'll find in chandeliers, wall sconces, and vanity bars. It won't fit an E26 medium socket without an adapter, and this bulb doesn't ship with one.Do these bulbs need a special dimmer?
They need an LED-rated dimmer, and Votatec publishes the tested list. On the Lutron side that's the DVCL-153PLH, S600-P, DV600-P15 and MACL-153M. On Leviton it's the 6681, 6674 and 6683. Pair the bulb with an older incandescent-era dimmer and you'll likely see flicker, buzz, or a dead zone at the bottom of the dial. Check the model stamped on your existing wall plate before you order.When should you not use this bulb?
Don't put it in an enclosed fixture. The spec panel rates it "no" for enclosed, and that isn't a formality. A sealed dome traps the heat the filament and driver give off, and the trapped air climbs well past what the electronics are built for. The electrolytic capacitors in the driver dry out early and the phosphor coating shifts colour, so a bulb rated 50,000 hours can fail in a fraction of that. Open chandeliers, open-top sconces and vanity bars are fine. Sealed globes and flush-mount domes are not.Cut glass or plain white?
Pick by whether the bulb shows. Cut glass is faceted, so the filament catches the cuts and reads as sparkle in an exposed socket. The plain white version diffuses the same 5.5W and 600 lumens into an even glow, which suits shaded fixtures where you want output without a visible filament. Cut glass comes in 3000K only.
