G15 Filament LED (Frosted)

The G15 Filament LED (Frosted) is a 1-7/8 inch globe bulb whose frosted glass hides the filament and softens glare in open chandeliers and vanity bars.

It draws 5.5W for 600 lumens at 3000K on an E12 candelabra base, with a full 360 degree beam and a 0.9 power factor. Dimmable on 120V.

What is a G15 bulb?

A G15 is a globe bulb measuring 1-7/8 inches across. The number is the diameter in eighths of an inch, so 15/8 works out to 1.875 inches. This one stands 3-1/8 inches tall on an E12 candelabra base, the same fitting as a standard chandelier candle. It's built for vanity bars, open chandeliers, wall sconces and display cabinets.

How bright is a 5.5W G15 compared to other globes?

600 lumens, which is well clear of the category norm. Most decorative G15 globes on the Canadian market draw 1.3W to 2W and deliver 180 to 200 lumens. This one runs 5.5W and puts out roughly three times that light. A six-lamp vanity or a chandelier reaches usable task levels without anyone adding fixtures or dropping in a second circuit. The beam is a full 360 degrees, so light spreads evenly through the globe instead of pooling toward the ceiling.

Frosted or clear?

Choose frosted when the lamp sits in view. The frosted coating diffuses the filament into one even glow, and that matters in open chandeliers, exposed sconces, and the mirror-flanking vanity bars where a bare filament reflects straight into the eye. Choose the clear G15 when the filament itself is meant to be the decorative feature. Both run the same 5.5W, 600Lm, E12 platform.

Where it fits, and where it doesn't

Don't put it in an enclosed fixture. Votatec rates this lamp unsuitable for enclosed fixtures, which rules out sealed globes, closed ceiling-fan bowls and gasketed outdoor lanterns. Trapped heat shortens driver life. It dims on standard forward-phase controls: Leviton 6681, 6674 and 6683, plus Lutron DVCL-153PLH, S600-P, DV600-P15 and MACL-153M. Other dimmers can flicker or buzz at the bottom of the range.
