Clear glass leaves the filament on show, so it belongs in open chandeliers and vanity bars. It isn't rated for enclosed fixtures.
What is a G15 bulb?
A G15 is a globe bulb measuring 1-7/8 inches across. The G is the shape and the 15 is the diameter in eighths of an inch, so 15/8 gives you 1.875 inches. This one runs 3-1/8 inches end to end on an E12 candelabra base, the size you'll find in most chandeliers, sconces and vanity bars.
What is a G15 light bulb equivalent to?
Work from lumens, not watts. This bulb is rated at 600 lumens drawing 5.5 watts. That number does the work, because the G15 shape covers a wide output range and most of what's sold in Canada sits between 180 and 200 lumens. Swap by shape alone and you can end up with a fixture roughly a third as bright as this one. Votatec doesn't publish an incandescent equivalence figure for this model, so we won't quote one. Ask for the lumen rating on any G15 you're comparing.
Clear or frosted?
Two finishes, two part numbers. This is the clear version, VO-FG15W5.5-12, and the glass is transparent so the filament stays visible. Specify it where the bulb is part of the look. The frosted version diffuses the filament and cuts glare, which suits fixtures at eye level. Same 5.5W, same 600 lumens, same base.
What it works with, and what it doesn't
Don't put it in an enclosed fixture. Trapped heat shortens filament LED life and this model isn't rated for it. On dimming, we've tested it against Leviton 6681, 6674 and 6683, and Lutron DVCL-153PLH, S600-P, DV600-P15 and MACL-153M. Anything outside that list, bench test a sample before you commit to a job.
