What is the difference between a G25 and an A19 bulb?
Size and shape, not fitting. A19 is the standard pear-shaped household lamp at 2.375 inches across. G25 is a true sphere at 3.15 inches, so it reads as a globe rather than a bulb. Both use the same E26 base, so they swap freely if the fixture has room for the wider glass. Pick G25 when the lamp is meant to be seen.
What size is G25?
The 25 is diameter in eighths of an inch, so 25/8 gives 3.125 inches nominal. This lamp measures 3.15 inches (80mm) across and 4.57 inches (116mm) tall including the base, and weighs 45 grams. Check height before you order for a shallow vanity bar or a tight globe cage. Diameter usually clears. Length is what catches.
When to spec clear instead of milky
Clear glass leaves the filament visible, which is the point in an open pendant, a bare-lamp row or a period fitting. Choose the milky G25 when the lamp sits at eye level and you want an even sphere with no bright coil. Both are 9W on an E26 base, so they mix on one order. Clear adds a 4000K option, unusual in filament lamps and useful where warm decorative light reads too yellow.
Does it matter which way round it sits?
No. Votatec's own photometric file measures output around the axis to within about 5% through the main zone, so there's no dim face to hide from the room. Half the light goes upward, which suits open and uplit fixtures. Stay on the tested dimmers: Leviton 6681, 6674, 6683, or Lutron DVCL-153PLH, S600-P, DV600-P15 and MACL-153M. Don't fit it in an enclosed fixture, and keep it dry: IP20, -20C to 40C.
