What is the purpose of a GU24 bulb?
A GU24 bulb locks into a two-pin twist-and-lock socket instead of threading into a screw base. The socket spread through ceiling fixtures, sconces and recessed cans during the CFL era so an efficient lamp couldn't be swapped out for an incandescent one. Those sockets are still working across Canadian homes, apartments and multi-family buildings. This is the lamp that goes back into them.
What is the difference between GU10 and GU24?
Pin spacing, and the job each one does. GU10 pins sit 10mm apart and carry a directional reflector lamp for track heads and accent work. GU24 pins sit 24mm apart and carry a general-purpose lamp, usually an A19 shape like this one. They don't interchange, and no adapter makes them interchange safely. Measure the gap between the pins before you order.
A straight replacement for a 13W CFL
A 13W GU24 CFL was the standard lamp in these sockets. This one replaces it at 10W and comes on instantly at full output, with no warm-up drift and no mercury to manage at disposal. At 5000K it reads as clean daylight, which suits kitchens, laundry rooms, garages, stairwells and corridors where people need to see the true colour of what they're looking at.
What to check before you order a case
It's rated for enclosed fixtures, so sealed ceiling domes and covered sconces are fine. The bulb measures 3-7/8" tall by 2-3/8" across, worth measuring against a shallow dome first. Dimming is tested against Leviton 6681, 6674 and 6683, and Lutron DVCL-153PLH, S600-P, DV600-P15 and MACL-153M. Other dimmers may work but haven't been verified. It's an indoor lamp on a 120V circuit.
