What does ST14 mean on a light bulb?
ST14 describes the glass, not the base. ST is straight tubular, and 14 is the diameter in eighths of an inch, so 14/8 gives 1.75 inches nominal. This lamp measures 1.68 inches (45 mm) across and 3.14 inches (80 mm) tall.
Are S14 and E26 the same?
No. S14 and ST14 describe the glass shape and its diameter. E26 is the screw base that threads into the socket. This lamp is both, an ST14 envelope on an E26 base, so it fits any standard medium-base socket.
One caution. S14 bulbs sold for patio string lights are usually 1W to 2W, shatterproof plastic, and rated for wet locations. This one is glass, 5.5W, and IP20. It isn't a wet-location string-light replacement.
How bright is 5.5 watts, really?
600 lumens, and the photometric file backs it up at 605.97 lumens on 4.95W of actual draw. The S14 lamps sold for string lights manage 50 to 200 lumens, so this one lights a space rather than just marking it. Peak intensity sits at the bulb's equator, not the tip, which suits open pendants and exposed-lamp fixtures.
Does it dim?
Yes, on standard forward-phase dimmers, and the spec panel names the tested Leviton and Lutron models. Watch the dimmer's minimum load. A handful of 5.5W lamps on one dimmer can fall under it and flicker at the bottom of the range, so count your total connected watts before you specify.
Where this lamp shouldn't go
Two limits from the manual. It isn't rated for enclosed fixtures, so skip sealed jars, gaskets and closed globes where heat builds around the base. And IP20 means dry indoor locations only. The spec table gives an operating range of -25C to 40C.
The filament stays visible, so it belongs in fixtures that show the lamp: open pendants, cage fixtures, cafe and restaurant feature lighting, vanity bars.
