The GLA-120-12W-1 is a 120W low voltage landscape lighting transformer. It steps 120V line power down to 12V AC for outdoor LED runs, and a built-in photocell and digital timer handle the switching, so there's no separate control to wire.

How many landscape lights can you run on a 120W transformer?
Add up the wattage of every fixture on the run. The total can't go past 120W.
At 5W per fixture that's 24 lights. At 7W, 17. At 10W, 12. Most LED path and garden fixtures sit between 3W and 7W, so 120W covers a typical residential job.
Leave headroom. Loading to the ceiling gives you nothing for the fixtures a client adds next season.
What size transformer do I need for low voltage landscape lighting?
Size it on connected wattage, never fixture count. Two 12-light jobs can differ by 60W.

What the photocell and timer actually do
One button cycles twelve settings. "O" holds the lights on. "A" runs dusk to dawn off the photocell. Timing modes switch on at dusk, then off after the hours you pick, 1 through 9.
The unit remembers its setting through a power cut. To test the photocell in daylight, set it to "A" and cover the sensor with black plastic.
What you need on site before wiring it
It plugs into a covered Class A GFCI receptacle with a hooded cover plate marked WET LOCATION. Mount it near that outlet, clear of combustible material, and 10 ft from any pool, spa or fountain.
Run 12 gauge cable. The manual accepts 12 to 16 gauge and recommends 12 throughout. Keep the first fixture 10 ft out, and put higher wattage fixtures nearest the transformer. Operating range is -10 to 40 °C, so check winter siting on year-round installs.
No dimmers, no extension cords, no submersible fixtures, and you can't parallel two units.
