The 6" Slim Round Panel is a Type IC pot light, so ceiling insulation can sit against it. No housing, no clearance gap.

What is an IC rated pot light?

IC means insulation contact. This model is certified Type IC, so batt or blown insulation can touch the housing without a fire risk and without cutting a clearance gap. In an insulated Canadian ceiling that's the rating you need.

IC and air tight are two different listings, and this one carries IC. If your spec also calls for a sealed air barrier, use the 6" Round Airtight Gimbal Panel instead.

Can you change the warmth of recessed lighting?

On this one, yes. A five-position switch inside the driver box selects 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, 4000K or 5000K. Set it before you push the fixture up, because the driver box ends up above the drywall. Output moves with the setting: 951 lumens at 2700K, rising to 1,108 at 4000K on Votatec's IES files.

Should I get 4 inch or 6 inch recessed lights?

Six inch for ambient light in kitchens, living rooms and hallways, where you'd rather run fewer fixtures. The 110 degree beam spreads wide, so 4 to 5 feet apart on an 8 foot ceiling covers a room without scalloping. Four inch suits accent runs and tighter spacing.

Can you put these in a bathroom?

Yes. It's cETL listed for wet locations and IP54 rated, so bathrooms, laundry rooms and indoor damp areas are fine. The instruction sheet limits it to indoor installation, so keep it out of soffits and exterior eaves. For covered outdoor runs, the 6" Slim Panel Fire Rated model is listed for indoor and outdoor use.

What it needs in the ceiling

Cut a 6-1/4" (158mm) hole. The trim is 7" (175mm) across and 1" deep, so it clears a 2x4 ceiling. Wire it with NMD90 Romex or BX into the quick-connect terminals. The cable connector is sold separately. New construction needs the driver box fastened to a joist. Remodels don't.
