What are those hanging lights called?
A lantern suspended from a ceiling on a chain is a hanging light, or an outdoor pendant. It isn't a wall light, and the difference matters when you're ordering. A wall fixture bolts to a vertical back plate at eye level. This one drops from a ceiling canopy, so you need headroom underneath it and a ceiling box rated to carry the load.
The SOL Large Chain gives you 92.76 in from the ceiling to the bottom of the lantern. That's 72.1 in of chain, a 4.96 in canopy, and a 14.97 in lantern body. Measure your covered ceiling before you order. On a standard 8 ft porch this hangs low.
What is a good waterproof rating for outdoor lights?
For a fixture in Canada, the rating you want is a wet location listing, not an IP number. IP ratings come from a lab test for dust and water jets. A wet location listing means a certification body has approved the whole fixture for direct rain, snow and ice in the position it's installed in. This one is cETLus listed by Intertek for wet locations, so it's cleared for open-sided porches and exposed entryways, not just covered soffits.
The seal depends on installation. Caulk the mounting surface, or water gets behind it and the rating stops meaning anything.
Will it survive a Canadian winter?
It's rated -20°C to 60°C, on steel with tempered glass at 5.51 lbs. It runs 120V at 50-60Hz and dims with the lamp you fit, so an E26 dimmable LED filament gives you a warm glow at a fraction of 60W.
