What is an IC rated pot light?
An IC rated pot light can touch building insulation directly. ENERGY STAR lists this model as Type IC, so you skip the 3 inch clearance gap a non-IC fixture needs and the ceiling's thermal barrier stays whole. That's the difference that matters in insulated attic and upper-floor ceilings, which is where most 2" pot lights end up. It's cETL listed for wet locations too, so covered porches, soffits and bathrooms are all in scope.
How far apart should 2 inch recessed lights be?
Start at roughly half your ceiling height. An 8 foot ceiling puts them about 4 feet apart. A 2" aperture throws a 34 degree beam at 573 to 686 lumens, so it covers noticeably less floor than a 4" or 6" fixture. Plan tighter spacing than you would for a bigger can, or use these where they're strongest: perimeter runs, accent work, hallways and tight ceilings where a larger trim would look heavy.
What size hole does a 2" pot light need?
A 2-13/16" (72mm) cut-out, not 2 inches. The name describes the aperture, not the hole. The trim measures 3-1/8" (80mm) across and sits 2-3/8" (61mm) deep, and the spec sheet asks for a clear compartment of at least 3-1/8" x 2-3/8" above the ceiling. Worth confirming your joist space before you order. Spring clips grip from 1/2" to 1" ceiling thickness and it mounts horizontal or vertical.
Which dimmers work with it?
It's TRIAC, dimming 10% to 100%. The spec sheet names 38 tested dimmers from Lutron, Leviton and Legrand, covering Diva, Maestro, Skylark, Lumea, Decora and Sureslide. It isn't a 0-10V fixture, so don't spec it against a 0-10V controller. Older dimmers built for incandescent loads can run erratic on LED, and a few models need more than one fixture on the circuit before they settle.
