The 3.5" Square Regressed Gimbal is an ENERGY STAR certified square pot light with a Type IC housing, so ceiling insulation can sit right against it. The trim tilts to aim light where you need it.
Five colour temperatures on one switch, 2700K through 5000K. Three power steps as well, 12W, 10W or 8W. Certified 1,000 lumens, CRI 92.
Die-cast aluminium, wet location listed, cETL. Five year warranty.
How do I know if a recessed light is IC rated?
Check the certification record, not the carton. This fixture is listed on the ENERGY STAR register as Type IC under model VO-SP3.5W12-120-D-5WAY, certified 2025-05-07. IC means insulation contact. A Type IC housing is built to sit in direct contact with ceiling insulation without becoming a fire risk. Non-IC fixtures need a clear gap held around them, and in a retrofit ceiling that gap is hard to keep.
Can you put insulation over IC-rated recessed lights?
Yes. That's the whole point of the rating. Batt or blown-in can cover a Type IC fixture directly, following the insulation maker's instructions and whatever your local inspector wants to see. It's the difference between dropping fixtures into an insulated ceiling and building a box around every one of them.
Five colour temperatures and three power levels on one part number
Stock one SKU, cover more of the job. The CCT switch runs 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, 4000K and 5000K. A second switch drops the fixture to 10W or 8W. So the same box does a warm hotel corridor and a 5000K back-of-house area. Fewer part numbers on the truck. Fewer wrong-colour callbacks.
Will it fit the ceiling you're working in?
Cut hole is 3-3/4 inches. The trim is 4-3/8 inches across and the housing sits 3-7/16 inches deep, and the spec sheet asks for a lamp compartment of at least 4-3/8" x 3-7/16". Worth checking against a shallow joist bay before you order. It runs from -20°C to 40°C, which covers an unheated garage or a covered entry, and it's rated for enclosed fixtures. Wet location listed, IP54. Dimming is ELV and TRIAC down to 10%, and the sheet names 35 tested dimmers from Lutron, Leviton and Legrand.
For the tested dimmer list, the cut-hole drawing and the compartment minimum, open the Spec Sheet (PDF) in the Related documents panel, and grab the IES zip if your designer needs photometry at all five colour temperatures. Send us your fixture count and ceiling depth and we'll come back with a wholesale quote and an IC and wet-location check for the space.
