Aim it after the ceiling's closed. This 4 inch round pot light sits on a floating gimbal that tilts 30 degrees and spins a full 360, so you set the beam from below instead of guessing at rough-in.
9W draws 613 to 804 lumens depending on which of the five colour temperatures you switch it to, at CRI 92 and a 38 degree beam.
One-piece die-cast aluminium trim, Type IC, damp rated, ENERGY STAR certified.
What is the hole size for a 4 inch pot light?
Ø4-1/4 inches, or 108mm. Cut that and this fixture drops straight in. The trim covers 5 inches, so there's 3/8 of an inch of overlap all round to hide a ragged edge. Depth is only 1-1/2 inches, which clears most joist bays without notching anything.
Do you need a pot light housing in an insulated ceiling?
Not with this one. The fixture and its driver are both Type IC, approved for direct contact with insulation, and the instruction sheet is explicit that a pot light housing isn't required even in insulated ceilings. The driver lives in its own Class 2 junction box outside the ceiling opening, and you can pull it back through that opening later if it ever needs service. That's the part most slim panels get wrong.
Aim the beam after the drywall is up
The gimbal tilts 30 degrees and rotates a full 360. That's what separates this from a flat panel. You place the light once the ceiling's finished and the millwork is in, not at rough-in when you're still guessing where the island lands. Wall washing, artwork, sloped ceilings, a run of cabinetry. The beam runs about 38 degrees, tight enough to put light where you meant it without the scalloping a narrow spot leaves.
What it needs to run
One driver per fixture, always. Don't gang two heads onto one. You can sit each driver beside its fixture and daisy chain the line voltage, or bank all the drivers in one spot and run the supplied 6ft and 20ft low voltage jumpers out to each head, up to a 40ft total run. Dimming is TRIAC, 10 to 100 percent, against a tested list of 35 Lutron, Leviton and Legrand models.
For that dimmer list, the driver wiring options and the 40ft run limit, open the Manual and Spec sheet, and pull the IES file if your designer needs candela data at each colour temperature. Send us your fixture count and trim colour, white or black, and we'll come back with a wholesale quote and a dimmer compatibility check.
