G9 LED – 3W

The G9 LED - 3W is a dimmable COB capsule that pushes straight into a standard G9 bi-pin socket. No driver, no transformer.

It draws 2.8W for 270-300 lumens of warm 3000K light, with CRI above 80, a 100° beam and power factor over 0.9. The body is 20mm across and 37mm long.

ETL listed under Intertek file 5002042, rated for 25,000 hours, IP20, 3-year warranty.

Can you replace a G9 halogen bulb with LED?

Yes, and it's a push-fit swap. G9 runs on line voltage, so there's no transformer or driver to add.

The heat is what changes. A halogen G9 can discolour a fabric shade; this one draws 2.8W. Votatec publishes no halogen wattage equivalence here, so match on output: compare 270-300 lumens against the lamp you're replacing.

Can G9 LED bulbs be dimmed?

Only when the lamp is built for it, and this one is. The model code ends in DIM.

The dimmer catches installers out, not the lamp. An old halogen rotary dimmer expects hundreds of watts of resistive load, and 2.8W gives it almost nothing to read, so you get flicker, buzz or a dead bottom third of the travel. Use an LED-rated dimmer, mind its minimum load, and ask us to confirm the pairing against the dimmers we stock.

Are G9 bulbs being discontinued in Canada?

No. The federal prohibition effective 2026-01-01 covers mercury-containing fluorescent lamps, CFLs and linear tubes. Halogen capsules aren't in it, and G9 halogen is still legal to sell here.

The question comes from Europe, which pulled mains-voltage G9 halogen off its market on 2023-09-01. In Canada this is an energy and maintenance call, not a compliance deadline.

Will it fit, and where does a 100° beam work?

Measure the cavity first: 20mm across, 37mm long, 13g.

Beam angle is 100°, not the 360° most G9 capsules quote. In a downward vanity bar or shaded sconce that puts light on the task, not the shade. For an open chandelier seen from all sides, our 6W milky G9 spreads 360° and suits it better.

Range is -20°C to +45°C, best near 25°C, and IP20 means dry indoor only. A sealed fixture trapping heat past 45°C cuts into the 25,000 hour rating.
