How many 300W UFO high bays do I need?
Fewer than you think, and for most shops this is the wrong size. Work it as target foot-candles times floor area, divided by fixture lumens times about 0.75 for coefficient and light loss.
A 40 by 60 ft shop is 2,400 sq ft. At 30 foot-candles that's roughly two of these, and two fixtures can't hold uniformity over that floor. Use four to six of the 150W instead.
The 300W earns its place above about 25 ft. A 100 by 200 ft warehouse at 30 foot-candles takes around 18 of them on a 33 ft grid, and at a 30 ft mounting height that spacing holds up. Eighteen mounting points instead of forty is where the money is.
Should you buy the 300W or the 240W?
Don't buy this one to run it at 240W. Dialled down, it makes 35,500 lm. The 240W model at its own top setting makes 36,000 lm, from a smaller, lighter fixture. Buy the 300W when you'll use 270W or 300W, and buy the 240W when you won't.
Can you dim it and run a motion sensor?
No. The installation manual is explicit: the fixture can't be connected to a dimming device when it's fitted with the motion sensor. Pick one. Dimming gives you 0-10V, PWM or resistance, down to 10%. The sensor gives you occupancy switching, set by remote.
One more thing about the sensor, and it matters here. The fixture is rated to -40 C. The sensor is only rated to -20 C. In an unheated Canadian warehouse the sensor is what fails first, so on cold sites, dim instead.
What fits, and what doesn't
The UFO reflector accessory doesn't fit this size. It's built for the 150W and 240W only. The 300W comes in black, hook mount, with 6 ft power and dimming cables, and it needs a listed waterproof strain relief bushing where the cord meets the box.
