Do you need an electrician to install a sensor light?
In Canada, for a new fixture, yes. This unit is hardwired, not plug-in, so it ties into permanent building wiring. Commercial, institutional and rental work needs a licensed electrical contractor. Ontario homeowners can wire their own primary residence, but they still have to file a Notification of Work and pay for an ESA inspection. The spec sheet says the same thing in code language: install it per the applicable installation code, by someone who knows the product and the hazards involved.
What are the downsides of using motion sensor lights?
False triggers and light trespass, mostly. Passing cars, cats and a neighbour's driveway all set off a badly aimed PIR. Three controls handle that here. The distance switch steps detection down from 20m to 15m or 10m. Hold time runs 5 seconds to 10 minutes. The photocell keeps the light off until ambient drops under 50 lux and shuts it down again above 150 lux, so it won't fire in daylight.
Why five colour temperatures on one fixture?
One SKU covers every job. A switch inside the housing picks 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, 4000K or 5000K, so you're not guessing the spec at order time or stocking four versions. Out of the box it's set to 3000K, 1 minute hold, dusk to dawn. CRI is 80.
Where it mounts, and the cold-weather limit
Wall or eave, at 2.4m (7.87ft). That height is what the 20m detection figure assumes, and the sensor wants a 10° to 20° downward tilt to reach it. The heads swing 270°, and the sensor rotates 180° horizontally and 90° vertically. Rated -20°C to 40°C, so check your coldest design temperature before you spec it for a Prairie or northern site.
