The CM-251-139W#-F is a steel emergency battery unit that carries up to 140W of remote heads, on top of its own two 5W lamps. Multi-voltage AC120-347V input. 12V DC output, 940 lm across both heads, 6000K to 6500K, and at least 30 minutes of runtime at full remote load. 20 gauge powder-coated steel, CSA listed to C22.2 No. 141-15, damp location rated, 5 year warranty. Spider plate, wire nuts and a 3ft cord are in the box.

What is a remote capable emergency light?

It's a battery unit that powers extra lamp heads mounted away from the box. The CM-251-139W#-F runs its own two 5W heads and feeds 12V DC to remote heads down a corridor or stairwell it can't reach directly. One battery, one test point, several lit areas.

How much remote load can you actually connect?

140W is the total budget, not a spare allowance. The two 5W integral heads draw from it, so you've got 130W left for remote heads (Manual, Fig. 3). Fit 2W heads instead and 136W stays free. Add up the wattage of every remote head before you spec the run. Going over budget is what pulls a unit below its rated 30 minutes.

How do you wire it for 120V or 347V?

By picking the right input lead. Red is AC 347V, black is AC 120V, white is neutral, green is ground (Manual, Fig. 3). Cap off whichever line you don't use. Feeding 120V into the 347V lead is the common mistake, and it shows up as heads that only glow dim. The supply has to be unswitched and always live, run to a junction box with about 8 inches of slack.

Does it meet Canadian emergency lighting rules?

On duration, yes, at the base level. The National Building Code asks for at least 30 minutes of emergency illumination in most occupancies (NBC 3.2.7.3), and this unit is rated at 30 minutes carrying the full 140W. Care occupancies need an hour, high buildings need two. Check your classification first. The manual also calls for a 30 second test every 30 days with written records, and a full duration test yearly.

Where it fits, and where it doesn't

Heated indoor spaces. The operating range is 15°C to 35°C, which rules out unheated warehouses, loading docks and cold parking garages. Recharge takes 35 hours from flat (Manual), so commission it well before any duration test. Give the charger 15 minutes after power-up before the AC ON and CHARGE indicators settle. For the wiring diagram, the troubleshooting table and the full test routine, open the Manual (PDF) , and check the Spec sheet's battery backup table if you're sizing runtime at a lighter load.
