What is an 80W LED flood light equivalent to?
Votatec rates this fixture as a 250W metal halide replacement. At the 80W setting it delivers up to 11,200 lumens at 4000K, which works out to 140 lumens per watt on the published figures. You're cutting connected load by roughly two thirds and dropping the lamp and ballast replacements that come with metal halide.
How many watts should a flood light be?
Match wattage to mounting height and the area you're covering, then trim with the switch. At 50W the fixture puts out 6,250 to 7,000 lumens, which suits a single loading door or a short building face at 10 to 15 feet. The 80W setting covers wider yards and higher poles. Because the switch is on the fixture, you can commission one wattage and change it later without swapping hardware or pulling new circuits.
Three control options, one part number
There's an on/off photocell in the housing and a 0-10V dimming driver, both standard. Set the photocell switch and the fixture runs dusk to dawn with no external control. Leave it off and wire it to a 0-10V system for scheduled dimming. Surge protection is built in at 4kV, which matters on exposed exterior runs where a nearby strike takes out unprotected drivers.
What ships in the box, and what to check first
Both brackets are included. The 80W is configured for trunnion mount by default, with a knuckle bracket in the box if you're going onto a pole or wall arm. To reach the power, CCT and photocell switches you open a metal plug and a plastic plug counterclockwise with a screwdriver, set them, then tighten both back down clockwise. Skip that last step and the IP65 seal is gone. Supply conductors must be rated 75°C minimum, and the fixture is listed for ambient temperatures up to 50°C.
