How big should a light be over a 24 inch vanity?
An 18-inch fixture. The common guideline sets the light at about 75% of the vanity width, so a 24-inch vanity wants roughly 18 inches of bar. That makes this 24-inch model the right width for a 30 to 32-inch vanity, and the widest bar you'd hang over a 24-inch top before it starts overhanging the counter. Mount the centre 75 to 80 inches off the finished floor.
Is a damp rating required over a bathroom sink?
In practice, yes, and this fixture carries a Damp location listing. Any luminaire sitting within 1.5 m horizontally or 2.5 m vertically of a plumbing fixture falls under Canadian Electrical Code Rule 30-320, which also calls for wall-switch control. Damp isn't wet, though. Keep it roughly a metre clear of the tub or shower enclosure. It's IP20, so it doesn't belong in a steam room.
What 24W actually gets you
1500 lm rated, which the spec sheet puts at a 100W equivalent. CRI above 90 matters more than the lumen count at a mirror, because that's what keeps skin tones from going flat. Five colour temperatures, set on the canopy: 2700K for residential suites, 4000K or 5000K for hotel and commercial washrooms. One SKU, five specs, no re-order.
What your installer needs on site
An octagonal junction box, at least ½ inch deep. The manual is specific about it, and it's the detail that stops a job halfway through. Strip 3/8 inch of supply wire. Mounting bracket, canopy screws and three wire nuts are in the box. Set the CCT switch on the side of the canopy before you seat the fixture, because you can't reach it once the canopy is up. Mounts horizontal or vertical. Not rated for enclosed fixtures.
For the junction box spec, the wiring sequence and the 36 dimmer models Votatec has tested, open the Manual and Spec sheet in the Related documents panel, and pull the IES file if your designer needs the full photometric report. Send us your unit count and the finish split across black and brushed nickel, and we'll come back with a wholesale quote and a dimmer compatibility check.
