What size light should go over a 24 inch vanity?

Seventeen to 19 inches is the design rule, because a vanity fixture runs 70 to 80 percent of counter width. This 24 inch bar is wider, and plenty of people still pick it because it finishes flush with a 24 inch top. By the rule it belongs over a 30 to 34 inch vanity. Mount it 75 to 80 inches above the floor.

How many lumens do you need over a bathroom vanity?

Plan on 1500 to 2000 lumens, and this one lands inside that band on every setting. Tested output runs 1783 lumens at 2700K up to 1919 lumens at 4000K, a swing of about 8 percent, so the room won't dim noticeably when someone picks a warmer white. Efficacy sits between 73.6 and 78.6 lumens per watt.

Does it light a face evenly, or just the counter?

Evenly, and wider than the spec sheet claims. The photometric file measures 166 degrees along the bar and 114 across it. That wide, shallow spread is what you want above a mirror: it wraps light onto both sides of a face instead of dropping a hard pool on the counter. About 12 percent goes upward, which lifts the ceiling and softens shadow.

What the install needs

An octagonal junction box at least half an inch deep. Mounting bracket, canopy screws, mounting screws and three wire nuts ship in the box, and you strip 3/8 inch off the supply conductors. Dimming covers 10 to 100 percent on ELV or LED-compatible dimmers, with 36 models already tested. It's ETL listed for damp locations at IP20, so general bathroom use is fine, direct shower spray isn't, and it isn't rated for enclosed fixtures.
