Product Overview

RW90 is the single-conductor building wire Canadian contractors pull into conduit for feeders, sub-services and service-entrance runs. This one runs AA-8000 series aluminum alloy instead of copper, which is where the money comes back on large-gauge work.

Rated 600V at 90°C. Cross-linked polyethylene insulation over solid or compressed-stranded aluminum. Five gauges, 2 AWG through 250 KCMIL, on 150m and 300m reels in black or white.

Certified to CSA C22.2 No. 38.

What is RW90 aluminum wire used for?

RW90 is a single insulated conductor for feeders, sub-services and service-entrance runs pulled into conduit or raceway. It's the wire electricians reach for on large-gauge work where copper stops making financial sense: panel feeds, subpanel runs, and the conductors between meter base and main disconnect. There's no jacket and no bonding conductor in the assembly. You pull the conductors the job needs and size the bond separately.

What's the difference between RW90 and RWU90?

The U stands for underground. RWU90 carries thicker insulation and a 1kV rating so it can go directly into the earth. RW90 is 600V and belongs in a raceway. If your run is direct burial with no conduit, RW90 is the wrong product. Get the designation right at quoting stage, because the two look nearly identical on a reel and the substitution gets caught at inspection, not at delivery.

Why AA-8000 alloy rather than plain aluminum?

AA-8000 is the alloy series the Canadian Electrical Code recognises for building wire, and it's what replaced the 1350-series aluminum that earned aluminum wiring its reputation in the 1970s. It creeps less under thermal cycling and holds a termination properly. Two rules still apply on every job. Terminate only into connectors marked AL or CU/AL, and size up against the copper equivalent, because aluminum carries less current per gauge.

Which gauges and reel lengths are stocked?

Five gauges: 2 AWG, 1 AWG, 2/0, 4/0 and 250 KCMIL. Most ship on 300m reels. 2/0 and 250 KCMIL are also stocked at 150m, though the 150m 250 KCMIL is white only. Black and white insulation lets you identify phase and neutral off a single order.

Ampacity, cold-weather rating and flame-test data aren't published on this page, so ask us for the mill spec sheet before you size a run. Send us the gauge, reel length and total metres you need and we'll come back with a wholesale quote and confirm stock.
