What does TECK cable stand for?
TECK isn't an acronym. It's a place. The cable was developed for the mines of Teck Township in northern Ontario, now Kirkland Lake, and the name stuck to the construction. The 90 is the conductor temperature rating in degrees Celsius. You'll see it written TECK90, TECK 90 and Teck 90. Some catalogues, older Votatec listings included, print it TEK90.
How deep do you bury TECK90 in Canada?
450 mm in non-vehicular areas at 600V. That's the minimum cover in Table 53 of the Canadian Electrical Code for cable having a metal sheath or armour, under Rule 12-012. Under a driveway it goes to 600 mm.
Unarmoured cable like NMWU needs 600 mm and 900 mm for those same two cases. The armour buys you 150 mm of trench depth. You can drop another 150 mm by laying treated planking or concrete over the run.
Does TECK90 need to be in conduit?
No. TECK90 is a recognised wiring method on its own, which is exactly why it gets specified for industrial work. The armour, inner PVC sheath and outer PVC jacket do the job conduit would. It runs in long lengths without pull boxes, and goes exposed, concealed, in cable tray, or direct buried.
What size TECK90 do you need for 100 amps?
Larger than anything on this reel list. Sizing lands on the 75°C column of CEC Table 2, because Rule 4-006 ties you to the termination rating rather than the 90°C insulation. That puts #6 copper, the largest size here, at 65A. A 100A feeder wants #3 copper.
Which sizes are on the reel
Eight: 14/2, 14/3, 12/2, 12/3, 10/3, 8/3, 6/2 and 6/3, each on a 150 m reel. Core colours are black and white on 2-conductor, black red blue on 3-conductor. Every size carries a stranded bare copper bonding conductor.
