Votatec LED troffers drop straight into standard T-bar grid ceilings, replacing 2-lamp T8 fluorescents without ceiling modifications or rewiring the grid. Available in 2x4, 2x2, and 1x4 configurations, they're used by electrical contractors and facility managers across Canada for office, retail, healthcare, and education retrofits.
Shop Troffer Lights by Application
Office and Open-Plan Workspace
Grid ceilings are standard in Canadian office builds from the 1970s onward. A 2x4 LED troffer at 40-50W delivers 300-500 lux at the desk - the range IES RP-1 specifies for sustained office work. UGR <19 diffuser design keeps glare off monitor screens.
Retail and Commercial Spaces
Retail ceilings need even light distribution and crisp colour rendering. Votatec's 2x2 architectural troffer outputs a CRI of 80+ and works in both 9/16" and 15/16" exposed T-bar grids common in strip malls and mixed-use buildings.
Healthcare and Long-Term Care
Healthcare facilities often have strict flicker and glare requirements. Our troffers operate at <1% flicker (IEEE 1789 compliant) and the 3500K-4000K CCT range reduces harsh blue-white light in patient areas.
Education and Institutional
School boards and municipalities across Canada use provincial utility rebate programmes to fund troffer retrofits. All Votatec models are DLC listed, making them eligible for rebates from BC Hydro, Toronto Hydro, Hydro-Quebec, ATCO, and other utilities.
Types of LED Troffer Lights We Carry
2x4 LED Troffer
The 2x4 is the standard commercial fixture. It fits every T-bar grid system built since the 1970s and directly replaces 2-lamp or 3-lamp T8 fluorescent fixtures. Votatec's 2x4 back-lit panel runs 40W to 50W with a 5-way wattage selector, giving you 4,000-7,000 lumens per fixture. That's enough to meet the 300-500 lux target for office environments without over-lighting perimeter zones.
2x2 LED Troffer
The 2x2 suits smaller ceiling bays, healthcare reception areas, retail display zones, and hospitality corridors where a full 2x4 would over-light the space. Votatec's 2x2 architectural troffer delivers 40W output with a clean centre-basket or edge-lit profile. It's available in selectable CCT from 3000K to 6000K so one model works across warm-toned reception areas and cooler-lit back-of-house zones.
1x4 LED Troffer
Narrow bays, hallway runs, and 1x4 grid ceiling sections need their own fixture. Our 1x4 back-lit panel (40W, 5-way CCT and watt adjustable) is DLC listed and eligible for provincial utility rebates in BC, Ontario, and Quebec. It replaces single-lamp T8 strip fixtures without an adapter plate.
Wattage-Selectable and CCT-Selectable Troffers
Field-selectable fixtures cut procurement headaches on multi-zone projects. Our 5-way CCT/watt models let the electrician set colour temperature (3000K to 6000K) and wattage (20W to 50W) at the fixture before install. One SKU covers a lobby, an office floor, and a server room. That simplifies the purchase order, the rebate submission, and the spare-parts shelf.
Replacing Fluorescent Troffers? Here's What Contractors Need to Know
Direct-wire LED troffers (Type B) bypass the existing ballast entirely. The electrician removes the ballast, rewires the tombstones to line voltage, and the LED driver runs directly off 120-277V. No ballast maintenance costs going forward. Votatec's troffers ship with wiring diagrams and are pre-labelled for direct-wire installation.
Drop-in magnetic retrofit kits are available for sites where full fixture replacement is outside the project scope. The LED strip replaces the fluorescent tube in under 10 minutes per fixture and works with the existing ballast - useful for tenant fit-outs and short-term lease spaces.
A note for spec writers: DLC Premium listing is required for the highest-tier rebate amounts at most provincial utilities. All Votatec troffers are DLC Standard or DLC Premium listed. Confirm the tier before submitting the utility rebate application, as the per-fixture rebate amount varies by listing level.

LED Troffer vs Fluorescent Fixtures: What the Numbers Say
T8 fluorescent troffers drew 64W per fixture when new (2-lamp, electronic ballast). After 5 years the ballast efficiency degrades and actual draw climbs. A direct-wire 40W LED replacement cuts fixture wattage by 37% on day one - and maintains that output for the fixture's rated life.
| Metric | T8 Fluorescent (2-lamp) | Votatec LED Troffer |
|---|---|---|
| Wattage | 64W (lamp + ballast) | 40W |
| Annual energy cost (8h/day @ $0.13/kWh) | ~$24.20 per fixture | ~$15.18 per fixture |
| Rated lifespan | 20,000 hours | 50,000+ hours |
| Relamping cycles (over 10 years) | 2 relamping events | 0 |
| Mercury content | Yes (3-5mg per tube) | None |
