Product Overview

The VO-FN4W25-AC-80 is an 80 CFM ceiling ventilation fan certified at 0.4 sones, quieter than most fans sold as ultra-quiet.

It moves 80 CFM at 0.1 in. w.g. on 25W and holds 66.3 CFM against a realistic 0.25 in. duct load. Continuous-run rated, 760 r/min, 4 in. discharge.

Galvanized-steel housing, dual ball-bearing motor, built-in thermal fuse. ENERGY STAR certified, HVI certified, cETL listed, 2-year warranty.

Is 80 CFM enough for a bathroom fan?

Yes, for a bathroom up to 80 square feet. HVI sizes rooms under 100 square feet at 1 CFM per square foot, roughly eight air changes an hour, with 50 CFM as the floor. Past 100 square feet you add by fixture instead: 50 CFM each for toilet, shower and tub, 100 for a jetted tub. A 10 x 8 bathroom lands exactly on this fan.

Rated airflow assumes 0.1 in. w.g. Real duct runs sit nearer 0.25, where this model is certified at 66.3 CFM.

Can you have too much CFM in a bathroom fan?

Yes, and the manual says so first. "CFM too great" is the opening entry in its list of causes for a fan that's louder than it should be. Oversizing buys you noise and lost conditioned air, not a faster clear.

The manual gives you a real test, too. If steam clears within about 15 minutes of a shower, the fan's sized right. Using a tissue isn't an accurate method.

How quiet is 0.4 sones?

Quieter than anything this search calls ultra-quiet. One sone is about a running fridge, and ENERGY STAR caps this class at 2.0. The spec sheet publishes 0.5 sones. The ENERGY STAR register certifies 0.4 under UPC 628308382934, so you don't have to take our word for it.

Certified efficacy is 3.5 CFM per watt against a 2.8 minimum.

What the spec panel doesn't cover

Cut a 9-1/4 in. square opening. The 13 in. grille covers most existing cut-outs, which is what makes this a straight swap on a retrofit. Run 4 in. round duct and don't reduce it, because a smaller duct adds noise. Keep the first elbow 18 in. clear of the discharge.

No dimmer, and no solid-state speed control of any kind. It isn't a range hood, and it can't go in a ceiling insulated past R40.

For the wiring diagram, the cooking-area exclusion zone and the full troubleshooting table, open the Manual (PDF), and check the spec sheet for what's packed in the box. Send us your unit count and we'll quote it, and confirm whether the 80 or the 100 CFM model suits your room schedule.
