What is the difference between damp rated and wet rated lighting?

Damp rated handles moisture in the air. Wet rated handles water hitting the fixture directly. The JVL100B is wet location rated, so it's approved for wash bays, coolers, loading docks and exterior walls where rain or hose spray lands on it. A damp-rated fixture there fails early and voids its own listing.

How do you know if a light fixture is damp rated?

Read the label, not the marketing. The JVL100B is cUL listed to UL 1598 and marked for wet locations. Two things in the manual decide whether it holds that rating once it's on the wall. Seal the 1/2" NPT threads with Teflon tape. Close every unused wiring entrance with the plugs supplied. Skip either and you've built a drain into a sealed fixture.

Why choose a lamp-ready fixture over an integrated LED?

You keep control of the light source. Facility managers can standardise on one fixture body and change the lamp as needs change. When an integrated vapor tight fails, the fixture gets scrapped and rewired. Here, the guard unthreads, the globe unthreads, and a stocked A19 goes in.

Will an LED A19 work in it?

Yes, and the 100W cap stops mattering. That limit is a thermal ceiling for incandescent lamps. A typical LED A19 draws 9W to 15W, well under it, so heat isn't a concern in the sealed globe. Confirm the lamp you pick is itself rated for enclosed fixtures.

Fit and installation

Mounts to rigid conduit via a 1/2" NPT hub, onto a 4" round weatherproof box, bracket included. Fixture body measures 4.2"W x 7.34"D x 9.5"H and weighs 1.2kg. It ships with two 150°C leads and must hang vertical. Tighten the four bracket screws in an alternate sequence so the gasket compresses evenly.
