Product Overview

The BCG-003U puts Class A ground fault protection, tamper-resistant shutters and USB-A plus USB-C charging into one 15A device, so a protected receptacle keeps both plug slots free.

Rated 15A at 125V, 60 Hz. Trips at 5 mA in under 25 mS. The two USB ports share 4.8A at 5VDC, about 24W. Self-test runs continuously and still trips on a real fault mid-test.

Plastic and metal build, ETL listed, indoor use, 2-year warranty.

Can a GFCI outlet have USB ports?

Yes, and this is one. A full Class A GFCI shares the strap with USB-A and USB-C, so one box covers protection and charging. The USB side is Class 2, 5VDC, 4.8A shared, about 24W, no Power Delivery. Trip the GFCI and the USB ports die with it.

Are tamper-resistant outlets required in Canada?

Yes. CEC Rule 26-700 requires tamper-resistant receptacles in dwelling units, and the 2024 edition widened that to more areas where children may be present. Both faces here are marked TR, with shutters that stay shut until a plug presses both blades at once. Tamper-resistant and GFCI aren't the same feature. This device is both.

What do the indicator light colours mean?

Red means it has power but isn't reset. Press RESET and it goes green, the working state. Flashing red means end of life: after TEST while power holds, after RESET while there's none, or on its own. Any of those, replace the unit. No light and no reset means LINE and LOAD are swapped.

What should you never plug into a GFCI outlet?

Life support equipment. A trip shuts that equipment down, so the manual rules it out. Same downstream: anything on the LOAD terminals dies when the GFCI trips, so label those positions "GFCI Protected" and keep life-saving devices off them. A GFCI won't catch overloads or short circuits. That's the breaker's job.

Where it installs, and what the terminals need

Indoors, in-wall. Damp or wet locations need a WR-marked device per the manual, so use the weather-resistant GFCI outside. Terminals take 14-12 AWG copper or copper-clad only, never aluminum, torqued to 14 in-lbf. Strip 1 inch for screw terminals, 0.6 inch for back wire holes. Green screw is ground, silver neutral, brass hot, in separate LINE and LOAD pairs.

For the wiring sequence, box-fill limits and monthly test routine, open the Manual (PDF) in the Related documents panel, and the Spec sheet for dielectric withstand, short-circuit rating and mechanical life. Send us your quantities by amperage and we'll quote wholesale, plus flag which SKU suits any damp or outdoor positions.
