The YGB-094WR is a 15 amp Class A GFCI outlet, weather and tamper resistant, built for the damp and wet Canadian locations where an ordinary receptacle won't pass. It trips at 5mA in under 25mS on a 5-15R face, and self-tests without being asked. It protects the outlets downstream too. Rated -35°C to 66°C, so a February install still works. Thermoplastic and metal, cUL listed, 14-12AWG terminals, two year warranty.
Do I need a 15 amp or 20 amp GFCI outlet?
Match the device to the circuit, not to the appliance. This 15A receptacle belongs on a 15A branch circuit. Most Canadian residential outdoor, bathroom and garage circuits are 15A wired in 14AWG, which is why this is the volume SKU. If the breaker and the wire are 20A, take the 20A version instead. Its face is a 5-20R T-slot and it accepts both plug types.
Can one GFCI protect the other outlets?
Yes, and that's how you keep the material cost down. The incoming cable lands on the LINE terminals. Anything wired to the LOAD terminals is protected too, even outlets in a different room. Put the GFCI first in the run, because one wired last protects nothing ahead of it. Label every protected outlet downstream with the supplied "GFCI Protected" sticker.
What Class A means, and why it's moulded on the face
Class A is the protection grade, and it's stamped into the housing above the plug slots. A Class A device interrupts at 6mA or more and holds below 4mA. This one sits at 5mA and clears in under 25mS. The 2024 Canadian Electrical Code calls for Class A protection on 5-15R and 5-20R receptacles installed outdoors within 2.5 m of finished grade. Check which code edition your province has adopted.
Wiring it, and what won't work
Copper or copper-clad only. Never aluminum. It ships tripped and won't reset until LINE and LOAD are correct with power on, so a dead face usually means the two are swapped. Don't put it in a box holding more than four wires, grounds excluded. Torque the terminals to 14 in-lbf. Strip 1 inch for the screw terminals, 0.6 inch for the back wire holes.
Reading the indicator light
Green means powered and passing self-test. Red means replace the device. Press test, then reset, once a month.
