The BY-Z2172U-N is a remote-capable emergency battery unit that carries a full 72W of remote head load, enough for one cabinet to cover a stairwell and the corridor outside it.
Two 2W integral heads deliver 260 lumens at 6500K over a 40 degree beam. Input takes 120, 277 or 347VAC, drawing 15W. The 12V 7Ah sealed battery runs 30 minutes at the full 72W, or 120 minutes at 22W.

How long must an emergency light stay on when the power fails?
Thirty minutes is the floor in Canada. NBC article 3.2.7.3 asks for an average of 10 lx at floor level for at least 30 minutes after normal lighting drops. High buildings under Subsection 3.2.6 need two hours. Group B occupancies outside that scope need one hour.
Runtime moves with connected load, and this unit's wiring diagram publishes the whole curve: 72W for 30 minutes, 27W for 90 minutes, 22W for 120 minutes. Load the cabinet to its full 72W and you clear the 30 minute general case with nothing spare. Hold remote load at 22W and the same cabinet covers a high building's two hours.
How many lumens does an emergency light need to be?
Code sets floor illumination, not lamp output. An inspector measures 10 lx averaged across the floor, so head count, spacing and mounting height decide the result more than any lumen number. Each integral head gives 130 lumens over a 40 degree beam, 260 for the pair. The manual caps mounting height at 16.1ft (4.8m), and the floor reading falls away above that.
Matching remote heads to the 12V output
The wiring diagram labels working voltage 12VDC, so remote heads have to match. A 6V or 24V head won't run on this cabinet. Budget the full 72W across the remote branch, and check voltage drop on the longer runs.
What the installer needs before rough-in
The feeding circuit has to sit on a lock-on breaker. The manual is blunt about it: no lock-on device, no warranty. Bring an un-switched 24 hour supply, leave 8 inches of slack, and insulate the unused transformer leads (black 120V, yellow 277V, red 347V). Supply has to hold 80% of nominal or the lamps glow dim. The charger board can take 15 minutes to show its AC-ON and charge LEDs, and the battery wants 24 hours before any full-load test.
