What is a running man exit sign?
It's the green and white pictogram sign Canada uses in place of the word EXIT. Ontario Building Code 3.4.5.1(2) requires exit signs to carry the ISO 7010 symbols, E001 and E002 for the exit itself plus E005 and E006 for the directional arrows, in the colours set by ISO 3864-1. This unit ships with three pictograms, so you choose left, right or straight-ahead on site instead of ordering a different part number for every door.
How long does it run on battery?
Two hours on the built-in heads, or 30 minutes with the full 36W load connected. The factory backup table publishes both figures: 13W runs for 120 minutes, 36W for 30. That split matters because Ontario Building Code 3.2.7.4(1)(b) sets duration by building, 2 hours for a high building under Subsection 3.2.6, 1 hour for Group B occupancies and Group C retirement homes outside it, and 30 minutes for any other occupancy. Spec the remote load to the duration your building needs.
What does the 36W actually cover?
Total system load, not remote capacity. The spec sheet caps remote heads at 24W and rates the integral output at 13W, and those two together make up the 36W on the badge. Load 24W of remote heads and you're at the 30-minute runtime, not the two-hour one.
Mounting and location limits
Ceiling mounting tops out at 18.3 ft. The manual restricts the unit to indoor use, so don't plan it into a covered exterior soffit even though the sheet carries a damp rating. Operating range is 0°C to 40°C, which rules out unheated stairwells and parkades. Charge it 24 hours before the first duration test, and stay with Votatec remote heads, because the manual warns that unapproved accessories can create an unsafe condition.
