Product Overview

Steel running man sign with a self-contained 120-minute battery, for Canadian exits where the sign has to stay lit on its own after the power drops.

4W input, 1.5W emergency output, 6500K, CRI above 80, 92 degree face. One 120-minute runtime, no remote heads to derate it.

20 gauge powder-coated steel, PC diffuser, CSA-Listed for damp locations, three pictograms and mounting hardware in the box. Five-year warranty.

Do running man signs need to be illuminated?

Yes, continuously. Ontario Building Code Art. 3.4.5.1(3) requires an internally illuminated exit sign to be continuously illuminated, and 3.4.5.1(2) sets the green and white ISO 7010 pictogram that replaced the old text "EXIT" plate. No dimming, no switching, no occupancy control. This one runs on AC and switches to battery when the supply fails.

Self-powered or AC-only?

This is the self-powered one. A 3.6V 1Ah Ni-Cd battery sits in the housing, so the sign doesn't depend on a central inverter or a remote DC supply. It recharges in 24 hours. If your building already has a central emergency system feeding the signs, the AC-only steel version is the cheaper part number.

How the 120 minutes maps to Canadian duration rules

OBC Art. 3.2.7.4(1)(b) sets emergency lighting duration by building: 2 h for high buildings under Subsection 3.2.6, 1 h for Group B major occupancies and Group C retirement homes, and 30 min for everything else. At 1.5W this sign runs the full 120 minutes, so it clears the most demanding tier, not just the 30-minute baseline. Combo units with remote heads publish a runtime ladder where full load often meets only the 30-minute baseline. This one has a single row, with no remote capacity to load.

Three pictograms, one part number

The box ships three interchangeable pictogram faces, so the installer picks left, right or straight at the door instead of ordering a part number per orientation. A push-button test switch and a pilot LED for AC-ON and charge state handle the monthly inspection.

Where it fits, and where it doesn't

Damp locations, not wet. CSA-Listed for damp means protected from direct water: unheated corridors, covered parking, loading areas. Direct rain or washdown needs the waterproof version. Wall mount only, and the rated range is 0 C to 40 C, so an unheated space that drops below freezing is outside spec.

For the pictogram set, test-switch procedure and recharge behaviour, open the Manual, and pull the spec sheet if your electrician needs the 40 mA input draw and the rating table. Send us your door count by mounting orientation and we'll come back with a wholesale quote and confirm damp versus wet for each location.
