What does a 12W LED corn bulb replace?
A 30W CFL. Votatec's datasheet rates the 12W CLW07E against a 30W lamp, and it returns 1620 to 1740 lumens doing it. That places this SKU at the bottom of the corn range. Everything from 27W up is sized against HID instead, from 60W metal halide to 250W. If you're relamping compact fluorescent rather than HID, this is the one that matches.
Why do LED corn bulbs fail early?
Usually because the old ballast stayed in the fixture. Votatec's manual is blunt about it: take the ballast off before fitting the lamp, or it'll produce a resonance of high voltage and break the bulb down. Same for the capacitor and ignitor on metal halide and HPS gear. Build matters too. This lamp sheds heat through a large heat sink with no fan, so there's no moving part to seize in a hot ceiling.
Will it fit a small wall pack or post top?
At 2.56 by 4.92 inches it's the smallest lamp in the range, and the datasheet clears the 12W through 63W models for horizontal or vertical mounting. The manual rates it for open luminaires and damp locations. For enclosed fittings, or anywhere carrying smoke, sulphur or corrosive air, it wants a glass or semi-metallic shade with nothing on the surface that traps heat.
What the manual asks for before you install it
Votatec classes this as a retrofit kit, not a swap-in lamp. That means a qualified electrician, connections made to the lamp holder lead wires rather than the terminals, and a luminaire whose input rating you don't exceed. It's excluded from emergency lighting, so don't spec it on egress circuits.
