This 100W LED corn light replaces a 300W metal halide lamp and screws into the E39 mogul socket the old lamp leaves behind.

Will a 100W LED corn light replace a 300W metal halide?

Yes, and the datasheet states it: 100W replaces 300W HID, 80W replaces 240W, and 63W replaces 180W. One lamp covers all three. A switch under the top cover sets the step, so a single part number re-lamps a mixed site. Output runs 15000, 12000 or 9450 lumens at 5000K, and 14500, 11600 or 9135 at 4000K. The E39 mogul base is the socket a 300W HID already sits in.

Are cob LEDs brighter than regular LEDs?

Shape doesn't set brightness. Chip count and driver do. What the corn form changes is direction. LEDs wrap the full cylinder for 360 degree output, so light fills a reflector built for an HID arc tube instead of firing one way. Efficiency is 150 lm/W at 5000K and 145 at 4000K. An aluminum heatsink carries the heat, with no fan to seize.

What fixtures does it fit, and which way up?

Vertical only. The 100W and 120W mount vertically, unlike the 27W to 63W lamps, which go either way. Votatec lists post top, garden light, shoebox and highbay housings. Measure the compartment first. The manual calls for a 440 x 240 x 240 mm minimum, or 17.32 x 9.45 x 9.45 inches, for a lamp 5.12 inches across and 10.31 long. Remove the old ballast rather than bypassing it. Leaving it wired sets up high voltage resonance that kills the lamp. Rated for enclosed fixtures and damp locations, from -40C to 50C.

Sensor and dimming options on the 80W to 120W lamps

The manual scopes motion and PIR sensors to the 80W to 120W band, which covers this lamp, and shows a sensor port with 0-10V dimming on those same lamps. Neither ships by default, so ask before you order. If you do add a sensor, set the lamp to its top step first or it misreads. The smaller lamps in this family have no sensor option.
