The BY-Z1302U is a double LED emergency remote head. It runs off any 5V to 24V DC battery unit, so one central supply can light rooms it could never reach on its own.

What is a remote head emergency light?
It's a light head with no battery of its own. It draws DC power from a separate remote-capable battery unit over low-voltage wiring, which is how one central unit covers stairwells, corridors and back rooms sitting too far from it to be useful. The BY-Z1302U puts two heads on a single 7.28 inch base, so you get 700 lumens of egress light from one wiring run and one mounting point.
Which battery units will drive it?
Anything with a 5V to 24V DC output. That 5V floor is lower than the 6V minimum most heads carry, so legacy 6V systems and standard 12V and 24V units all work without a separate driver. Votatec's own Remote Capable Steel Battery Unit (BY-Z2250U-N) publishes 150W of remote load for 30 minutes. At 10W a pair, that's up to 15 of these heads on paper, before you subtract anything else already on the circuit. Send us the unit model and we'll confirm the real count.
What are the legal requirements for emergency lights in Ontario?
Emergency lighting has to run at least 30 minutes after normal power drops, and self-contained unit equipment has to meet CSA C22.2 No.141. This head is cULus listed, and the spec sheet states it meets C22.2 No.141-15 for the Canadian market. That 30 minute rule is why remote capacity gets published as "150W-30min" rather than as a watts figure on its own.
Mounting height, wiring and where it can't go
Maximum mounting height is 4.98m (16.36ft), from the installation sheet. Feed the leads through the base hole, twist the nut to lock it, then land red to positive and black to negative. Reverse the polarity and the head won't light. It's damp location listed, though the installation sheet keeps it indoors and away from gas or electric heaters. Operating range is 0C to 40C.
